Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The softball team split a doubleheader with first-place LIU Post this afternoon at Bob Klein Field. Molloy sits at 14-21 and 4-6 in East Coast Conference play on the season.
Game 1: LIU Post 4, Molloy 5
- The Pioneers toko a 2-0 lead in the first inning, with three of the first five batters singling. A fielder's choice from Breanna Klaiber and a single from Hanna Finklestein gave the visitors the two-run advantage.
- After being sat down in order the first two innings, Molloy's first baserunner came by sophomore Sarah Glaser being hit by a pitch, setting the stage for an RBI triple from freshman Alex Burns.
- A walk to senior Kaitlyn Snyder put runners on the corners for a three-run opposite field home run by sophomore Courtney Greene to put the Lions in front, 4-2.Â
- The maroon and white added a fifth run in the fourth inning. Senior Tara Byrnes led off with a double down the right field line before redshirt sophomore Mikaela Tribby traded places with her with a double down the left field line.Â
- LIU Post scored on an RBI single from Megan Sneeden in the sixth before coming within one in the top of the seventh on a fielder's choice from Julia Seader.
- Greene retired the final two Pioneers to earn her fourth win of the season.
- Greene led with 3 RBI, going 2-for-3. Tribby added two doubles. The sophomore also struck out three batters in the circle.Â
Game 2: LIU Post 6, Molloy 0
- The visitors got on the board early on a leadoff home run by Allie Laird.
- It remained a one-run game until Seader hit a solo shot of her own to double the Pioneers' lead.
- LIU Post added a third run in the sixth inning, taking advantage of two error's by Molloy's infield.Â
- The Pioneers added three runs in the seventh on a single to Klaiber and an error by the Lions.
- Molloy was held to three hits on the afternoon off the bats of Glaser and freshmen Adriana Saab and Angelique Serrano.Â
- Senior Jenna Turato fanned eight batters in the loss.Â
Looking Ahead
Molloy will end its homestand on Tuesday (Apr. 9) against Queens College, completing the opening loop of ECC play. The doubleheader is slated for 3:00 p.m.
