Burns Tallies Four Hits; Greene Throws Complete Game Shutout in First Game of Doubleheader with Queens

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy softball team split a doubleheader with the Queens College Knights Friday afternoon at Bob Klein Field. The Lions moved to 15-22 overall and 5-7 in ECC play, while the Knights moved to 4-19 overall and 2-10 in conference play.

Game One: Molloy 4, Queens 0
  • Freshman Alex Burns hit an RBI single to left field in the second to put the Lions ahead 1-0.
  • Molloy used a three-run fourth inning to increase its lead to 4-0. Senior Kaitlyn Snyder hit a sacrifice fly to center, which scored freshman Angelique Serrano. Sophomore Courtney Greene grounded out to first, which allowed sophomore Sarah Glaser, who tallied two hits and one run scored, to score. Redshirt sophomore Mikaela Tribby, who recorded two hits, one RBI, and scored a run, concluded the inning with an RBI double to left center, which scored Burns, who was 4-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
  • Greene pitched a complete game shutout and struck out three batters in the victory.
Game Two: Queens 3, Molloy 0
  • The Knights took a 1-0 lead in the third after junior Beth Bonin grounded into a fielder's choice, which scored Gabriella Vicidomini.
  • Queens plated two runs in the sixth to extend its advantage to 3-0.
  • Burns, Snynder, senior Tara Byrnes, and Glaser all collected hits.
  • Senior Jenna Turato fanned six batters in 5.2 innings pitched.
Looking Ahead
  • The maroon and white travels to play Mercy tomorrow, April 13. The first game of the doubleheader with the Mavericks is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
