Softball Splits Doubleheader with STAC

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The softball team split a doubleheader with the Spartans of Saint Thomas Aquinas College this evening at Bob Klein Field. The maroon and white now sit at 13-20 on the season and 3-5 in East Coast Conference play.


Game 1: STAC 0, Molloy 5
  • After 3.1 scoreless innings, the Lions struck first by plating four runs in the bottom of the fourth.
  • A single from sophomore Sarah Glaser scored freshman Marissa Nicoletti to give Molloy a 1-0 lead. 
  • The Lions added two more runs on a double to center field by senior Kaitlyn Snyder before the catcher was driven in on an RBI single from sophomore Courtney Greene.
  • Molloy added a fifth run in the sixth inning on a second RBI double from Snyder.
  • Greene held the Spartans to just four hits while striking out five in a complete game shutout.
  • Snyder led with three hits and two RBI, going 3-for-3 with a walk on the afternoon.
  • Greene and freshman Alex Burns each added two hits for the maroon and white. 

Game 2: STAC 4, Molloy 0
  • The teams played five scoreless innings in the second half of the doubleheader.
  • A double and back-to-back RBI singles gave the Spartans a 2-0 lead in the sixth inning.
  • The visitors added two more runs in the seventh to double the lead on an RBI single and an error by the Molloy defense.
  • The Lions were held to just three hits on the contest, coming from the bats of Burns, Nicoletti, and senior Tara Byrnes. 
  • Senior Jenna Turato struck out three batters while allowing three hits in the loss while freshman Amanda King added one strikeout in two innings of work.

Looking Ahead
The maroon and white return to the diamond tomorrow (Apr. 7) against LIU Post at 3:00 p.m. from Bob Klein Field.
