Seven Tally RBIs in Split with STAC

Uniondale, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team split a doubleheader with the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans Saturday afternoon at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. The Lions moved to 8-17 overall and 5-5 in league play, while the Spartans moved to 10-17 overall and 2-8 in ECC play.

Game One: St. Thomas Aquinas 6,  Molloy 1
  • The Spartans tallied two runs in the top of the fifth to take a 2-0 advantage.
  • The Lions cut the lead to 2-1 after freshman Chris Peralta hit an RBI single.
  • STAC scored one run in the eighth and three runs in the ninth on its way to a 6-1 win.
Game Two: Molloy 16, St. Thomas Aquinas 6
  • Molloy plated 11 runs in the second. Senior Ryan Hensley, senior Nick Marino, and junior James Messina recorded RBI singles to make it 3-0. Junior Jake Saltzman and junior Sean Hogan hit two-RBI singles to increase the advantage to 7-0. Senior Michael Wall continued the rally with an RBI single. Marino followed with an RBI double, and sophomore Michael Nacinovich hit an RBI single to make it 10-0. Junior James Messina capped the inning with an RBI single to center.
  • The Lions' offensive line in the second was 11 runs on 11 hits with seven different players driving in at least one run. It was the second time this season Molloy scored 11 runs in an inning. 
  • STAC tallied six runs in the third to cut the home team's lead to 11-6.
  • The maroon and white responded with three runs in the bottom of the stanza. With the bases loaded, Marino, who was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored, walked. Later in the frame, Nacinovich, who was 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs score,  hit a two-RBI single to left field to make it a 14-6 contest.
  • Peralta blasted a two-run inside-the –park home run to right center to extend Molloy's advantage to 16-6.
  • Senior Anthony Pedraita pitched 4.1 shutout innings and struck out one batter in relief to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Looking Ahead
  • The maroon and white travels to play STAC tomorrow, April 7. The doubleheader with the Spartans in scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
