Baseball Falls to Bridgeport in Doubleheader

Bridgeport, Conn. – The Molloy baseball team dropped a doubleheader to the Bridgeport Purple Knights Sunday afternoon at Seaside Park. The Lions moved to13-26 overall and 10-14 in ECC play.

Game One:  Molloy 1, Bridgeport 7
  • The Purple Knights took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
  • Junior James Messina tied the score, 1-1, with an RBI single in the third.
  • Bridgeport plated four runs in the fourth and two in the sixth en route to a 7-1 win.
  • Messina and senior Nick Marino tallied two hits each in the loss.
Game Two:  Molloy 3, Bridgeport 10
  • Molloy went up 1-0 after Marino was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the first.
  • In the third, sophomore Matt Overton hit an RBI single to center, and Marino, who drove in two runs, hit a sacrifice fly to left field to increase the maroon and white's advantage to 3-0.
  • The home team scored seven runs in the seventh and three in the eighth to secure a 10-3 win.
  • Junior Sean Hogan extended his hitting streak to 15 games, and Overton collected three hits.
Looking Ahead
  • The maroon and white travels to play Dominican Tuesday, April 30. The game with the Chargers is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
