Brookville, N.Y. - The softball team fell in both contests of a doubleheader against first-place LIU Post in the penulitmate series of the season. Molloy heads into the final day of the season at 17-32 and 7-15 in East Coast Conference play.
Game 1: Molloy 0, LIU Post 8 (5 innings)
- The Pioneers went ahead 1-0 after two innings on an RBI single.Â
- The home team plated three runs in the third to take a 4-0 lead before adding two runs in the fifth to invoke the run rule.
- Molloy was held to three hits on the afternoon on the bats of freshman Alex Burns, who added a stolen base, and sophomores Sarah Glaser and Courtney Greene.
- Greene tossed 3.1 innings in the loss.
Game 2: Molloy 5, LIU Post 6
- LIU Post took the lead in the second inning, scoring three runs on two home runs.
- The Lions responded in the top of the third with a two-run homer from Burns to come within one, 3-2.
- The maroon and white took the lead in the fourth inning. The inning led off with back-to-back singles by Greene and freshman Amanda King.Â
- Senior Tara Byrnes scored the sophomore before King scored on a wild pitch to set the score at 4-3 in favor of the Lions.
- King drove in a run of her own in the fifth inning with a single to give the visitors a two-run lead.
- The Pioneers plated three runs in the fifth inning on a single and two-run home run to take a 6-5 lead.
- The Lions had the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, threatening to knot the score but were unable to advance the runner.
- Greene led the team with three hits, going 3-for-4. Burns, King, and freshman Lauren Ramos each added two hits.Â
- Burns topped the team with two RBI with the home run.
- Senior Jenna Turato tossed a complete game, striking out five.Â
Looking Ahead
Molloy concludes the 2019 season tomorrow (Apr. 28) against the University of Bridgeport at 1:00 p.m. The team will recognize the members of its senior class in a pre-game ceremony.Â
