Pastier's OT Winner Gives Men's Lacrosse First ECC Victory, 11-10

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The men's lacrosse team picked up its first East Coast Conference victory of 2019 with an 11-10 overtime thriller against Saint Thomas Aquinas College. Molloy improved to 5-7 and 1-2 in league play with the victory.

How it Happened
  • The first quarter ended with the score knotted, 2-2, featuring two markers from sophomore Jack Egan.
  • Egan opened the second frame with back-to-back goals, earning a hat trick in the first half of play. An additional goal from junior Kevin Pastier gave the Lions a 5-2 lead with 11 minutes left in the opening half.
  • The Spartans netted two goals to cut the lead to just one, 5-4, at the break.
  • The first four goals of the third frame belonged to the visitors, taking an 8-5 lead.
  • Senior Michael Scheuerer and junior Colin Kotarski each netted goals to bring Molloy within one, 8-7 before Brenton Mighty closed the third quarter for STAC to set the score at 9-7.
  • The maroon and white's offense went to work in the final frame, scoring three straight goals. Freshman Robert Lopez started the streak before Scheuerer added two for a hat trick and to put the Lions in front, 10-9.
  • John La Bella knotted the score for the Spartans, and eventually forced an extra frame.
  • With just 18 seconds on the clock in the first overtime period, Pastier completed a feed from junior Anthony Teresky to seal the victory in favor of the Lions.

Top Performances
  • Teresky led with six points on six asists. Egan (four goals) and Scheuerer (three goals, one assist) each tallied four points.
  • Pastier (two goals), and Kotarski and Lopez (one goal, one assist) added two points while junior Travis Cooksey added one assist.
  • Senior Justin English led with eight ground balls, going 20-of-24 on the face-off for the Lions.
  • Cooksey and senior Mike Durkin each picked up five ground balls with Durkin adding a game-high three turnovers.
  • Sophomore Michael Kessler made five saves in net for Molloy.

Looking Ahead
Molloy continues league play on Wednesday (Apr. 17) against New York Institute of Technology. Face-off from Rockville Centre is slated for 7:00 p.m.
