Peralta Hits Walk-Off Inside-the-Park Home Run in Game One Win Against Queens

Uniondale, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team split a doubleheader with the Queens College Knights Saturday afternoon at Mitchel Field. The Lions moved to 10-20 overall and 7-8 in ECC play, while the Knights moved to 19-12-1 overall and 9-6 in league play.

Game One: Molloy 5, Queens 4 (10 innings)
  • The Knights jumped ahead 1-0 in the second.
  • The Lions knotted the score, 1-1, in the third on an RBI double from sophomore Michael Nacinovich.
  • Queens scored a run in the fourth to take a 2-1 advantage.
  • Molloy plated two runs in the fifth to go up 3-2. Senior Nick Marino found a crease and sent the ball to left field, which scored senior Michael Wall. Later in the frame, Marino, who was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI, came charging home on a wild pitch to make it a 3-2 contest.
  • Queens made it 3-3 in the sixth.
  • In the bottom of the six, junior James Messina scored on a wild pitch to give the home team a 4-3 lead.
  • The away team evened the score, 4-4, in the eighth.
  • After senior Anthony Pedraita, who improved to 3-0, retired the side in order in the 10th, freshman Chris Peralta hit an inside-the-park home run to left icing the win for the Lions.
Game Two: Queens 4, Molloy 1
  • Queens scored one run in the first and third to go up 2-0.
  • In the bottom of the third, Nacinovich slashed an RBI double to left center to cut the Knights' advantage to 2-1.
  • The Knights plated two runs in the sixth to increase its lead to 4-1.
  • Junior Sean Hogan extended his hitting streak to six games in the loss.
  • Junior Joe Minucci struck out six batters in 5.1 innings pitched.
Looking Ahead
  • The maroon and white travels to play Queens tomorrow, April 14. First pitch with the Knights is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
