Softball Drops Two to University of Bridgeport

Bridgeport, Conn. - The softball team continued East Coast Conference play this afternoon at the University of Bridgeport. The Purple Knights, who are undefeated in conference play, picked up two victories. Molloy fell to 10-17 on the season and 1-3 in ECC action.

Game 1: Molloy 1, Bridgeport 2
  • The Purple Knights took a lead in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Elyssa Marmolego. 
  • The lead doubled in the fourth inning as Kaira Ramon scored on a throwing error.
  • Freshman Amanda King, who led the team with two hits, led off the top of the seventh with a single up the middle before moving to second on a wild pitch.
  • A pop up from redshirt sophomore Mikaela Tribby moved the freshman to third, setting senior Tara Byrnes up for a sacrifice fly to put the Lions on the board before the game ended in with a groundout for the final out.
  • Sophomore Courtney Greene allowed just one earned run on four hits while striking out two batters in the effort.

Game 2: Molloy 2, Bridgeport 7
  • A double from freshman Alex Burns and a bunt single by senior Kaitlyn Snyder set King up for a bases-clearing double to give the maroon and white a 2-0 lead to start the contest. 
  • Marmolego scored on an error to put UB on the board before Jenna DiLorenzo knotted the score with a sacrifice fly.
  • The score remained tied until the bottom of the fourth inning, when Allison Luzzi doubled to left to give the home team a 3-2 advantage.
  • UB plated three more runs in the fifth inning, scoring two on a home run from DiLorenzo.
  • An RBI single from Samantha Sabor rounded the score out at 7-2. 
  • King recorded an additional two hits in the second half of the doubleheader. 
  • Tribby also recorded two hits for the Lions.
  • Senior Jenna Turato struck out five batters through four innings in the loss while sophomore Tonianne Larson fanned three through two innings of relief.
