Softball Falls Twice at PFX Spring Games

Clermont, Fla. – The softball team opened its appearance at the 2019 PFX Spring Games with losses to both Georgian Court University and Stonehill College.

Game 1: Molloy 3, Georgian Court 11 (6 innings)
How it Happened
  • The maroon and white took an early 1-0 lead after a solo home run to left field by redshirt sophomore Mikaela Tribby in the second inning.
  • The lead doubled in the third inning after freshman Lauren Ramos led the Lions off with a single down the left field line. She advanced to third following a throwing error by Georigan Court's pitcher. Senior Kaitlyn Snyder hit a sacrifice fly to left field to drive her in.
  • After leaving two runners on base in each of the first two innings, GCU tied the contest with a two-run home run to right center field.
  • Georgian Court put together a seven-run fourth inning to take a 9-2 lead.
  • A RBI single from freshman Angelique Serrano brought the Lions within six, 9-3, in the fifth inning but a second two-run home run by Georgian Court ended the contest at 11-3 in the sixth inning due to the run rule.
  • Tribby went 2-of-3 with an RBI for the Lions while Serrano went 2-for-2 with an RBI of her own.
  • Senior Jenna Turato struck out six batters in the loss.

Game 2: Stonehill 1, Molloy 0
  • The Skyhawks scored the game's lone run in the top of the first inning on an RBI single up the middle.
  • The Lions' best opportunity came in the bottom of the fourth inning following a leadoff walk to Snyder and a single up the middle by sophomore Courtney Greene.
  • Molloy, however, was ultimately unable to drive in a run on the afternoon and was held to four hits.
  • Greene, sophomore Sarah Glaser, and freshmen Alex Burns and Amanda King recorded hits for the maroon and white.
  • Greene fanned three batters in the loss.
