Baseball Tallies Season-High 22 Runs in Win Over Lincoln

Uniondale, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team defeated the Lincoln Lions, 22-3, Sunday afternoon at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. The Lions improved to 7-15 overall and 4-4 in ECC play. Lincoln fell to 1-20 and 0-8 in conference play.

How it Happened
  • Lincoln plated two runs in the top of the second to go up 2-0.
  • Molloy responded with a 10-run bottom of the second. Junior Jake Saltzman hit an RBI single to center. Senior Michael Wall hit a two-RBI single to center to put the home team ahead 3-2. Junior James Messina singled to center to increase the advantage to 4-2. Freshman Vincent Pecora drove in two runs with a single, and junior Sean Hogan drove in one run with a single. After senior Nick Marino walked with the bases loaded, Wall capped the frame with a two-RBI double to left center.
  • Sophomore Jake McCarthy hit an RBI single to right field to make it an 11-2 contest.
  • The away team scored one run in the fourth to cut the lead to 11-3.
  • The maroon and white plated 11 runs in the bottom of the fifth. Saltzman started the scoring with an RBI single to right. Freshman Chris Peralta scored on a wild pitch. Marino blasted a two-RBI double to left to make it 15-3. With the bases loaded, Messina hit a grand slam to left. Later in the inning, freshman Nicholas DeMicco hit a two-run home run, and freshman Michael Manfredo, Jr. concluded the stanza with an RBI single to left to bring the advantage to 22-3.
Top Performances
  • Messina tallied five RBIs, three hits, scored three runs, and hit his first career home run.
  • Wall drove in four runs and collected two hits.
  • Marino recorded three RBIs, two hits, and scored one run.
  • Pecora, DeMicco, and Saltzman drove in two runs each.
  • Senior Anthony Auletta pitched five innings, gave up three runs on two hits, and struck out five for his first win of the season.

  • The maroon and white travels to play Pace Wednesday, April 3. First pitch with the Setters is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
