Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader with Lincoln

Uniondale, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team swept a doubleheader with the Lincoln Lions Saturday afternoon at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. The Lions improved to 6-15 overall and 3-4 in ECC play. Lincoln fell to 1-19 overall and 0-7 in conference play.

Game One: Molloy 15, Lincoln 2
  • Senior Nick Marino, who went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored, put Molloy ahead 2-0 with a two-run home run to left field in the second inning.
  • Lincoln scored one run in the third to cut the lead to 2-1.
  • In the bottom of the third, sophomore Jake McCarthy hit an RBI single to increase the Lions' advantage to 3-1.
  • Molloy plated four runs in the fourth to extend its lead to 7-1. Freshman Chris Peralta hit an RBI double down the right field line. McCarthy, who went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored, hit a two-RBI single to center, and freshman Robby Keane grounded out to first, which scored McCarthy to make it 7-1.
  • Junior Matthew Imbrogno tallied two RBIs, and junior James Messina, freshman Nicholas DeMicco, freshman Patrick Hoffman, and Marino drove in one run apiece in the eight-run eighth inning en route to the 15-2 victory.
  • Senior James Murphy pitched seven innings, gave up one run, on six hits, and struck out nine to improve to 1-0 on the season.
Game Two: Molloy 2, Lincoln 0
  • Molloy opened the scoring in the bottom of third after freshman Vincent Pecora scored on a throwing error. Later in the frame, junior Jake Saltzman drilled an RBI double to left to make it 2-0.
  • Junior Joe Minucci threw six shutout innings and fanned eight batters for his first win of the season.
  • Senior Lucas Burton pitched one inning in relief and struck out one batter for his first save of the year.
  • Pecora stole a career-high three bases in the win.
Looking Ahead
  • The maroon and white concluded the series with Lincoln tomorrow, March 31. First pitch with the Lions is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
