Baseball Tops Lincoln, 8-4

Uniondale, N.Y.  – The Molloy baseball team topped the Lincoln Lions, 8-4, Friday afternoon at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. The Lions improved to 4-15 overall and 1-4 in ECC play. Lincoln fell to 1-17 overall and 0-5 in league play.

How it Happened
  • Junior Sean Hogan put Molloy ahead 1-0 with an RBI double to left field in the first . Later in the frame, sophomore Jake McCarthy hit an RBI double to left center to extend the home team's lead to 2-0.
  • Lincoln tied the game in the top of the second with two runs.
  • Hogan put the maroon and white ahead 4-2 with a two-RBI single to center in the bottom of the second.
  • In the fourth, freshman Chris Peralta grounded out to second, which scored sophomore Michael Nacinovich. Junior James Messina scored on a wild pitch to extend the Lions' advantage to 6-2.
  • Senior Michael Wall and Nacinovich added RBIs in the fifth to make it an 8-2 contest.
  • Lincoln plated runs in the sixth and ninth inning to cut the lead to 8-4.
Top Performances
  • Hogan collected two hits and drove in three runs.
  • Freshman Robby Keane tallied two hits and scored one run.
  • Peralta, McCarthy, Wall, and Nacinovich recorded one RBI.
  • Redshirt junior Timothy Panetta pitched six innings, gave up three runs, on seven hits, and struck out a season-high 11 batters.
  • Senior Anthony Pedraita struck out two batters in three innings pitched to pick up his first career save.
Looking Ahead
  • The maroon and white continues its series with Lincoln tomorrow, March 30. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. at Mitchel Field.
