Softball Splits with New Haven

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The softball team split a doubleheader with the University of New Haven this afternoon at Bob Klein Field. Molloy improved to 9-14 on the season headed into East Coast Conference play while the Chargers now sit at 13-7.

Game 1: New Haven 6, Molloy 4
  • The Chargers took a 3-0 lead after the top of the fourth, scoring its first two runs on Molloy errors before an RBI single to the shortstop by Vanessa Strohm.
  • The Lions got on the board in the home half of the inning, as sophomore Courtney Greene scored on a passed ball.
  • UNH added two runs in the sixth inning on a home run by Jovanna Hillman and an RBI double from Katrina Aponte.
  • Freshman Adriana Saab drove in Molloy's second run on a sacrifice fly to set the score at 5-2.
  • A single from Melissa Bike gave the Chargers a four-run lead in the seventh inning.
  • A two-run double from redshirt sophomore Mikaela Tribby brought the maroon and white within two, 6-4, in the home half of the seventh, but the Lions were unable to bridge the gap.
  • Greene and Tribby each recorded two hits for Molloy while sophomore Sarah Glaser added a stolen base.
  • Greene fanned four batters through six innings of work in the loss.

Game 2: New Haven 1, Molloy 4
  • Tribby's hot bat continued in the second half of the doubleheader, driving in frehman Amanda King on a single up the middle to give the Lions a 1-0 lead in the third inning.
  • Saab doubled the lead in the fifth inning with an RBI single to center field.
  • The Chargers got on the board in the sixth inning on a passed ball.
  • Freshman Alex Burns hit her first collegiate home run in the sixth inning to give the maroon and white a three-run lead.
  • Greene retired the Chargers in order in the seventh inning, picking up her first save of the season.
  • Senior Jenna Turato struck out seven through five innings of work, allowing only two hits.
  • Burns, Tribby, and Saab went 2-for-2 with Burns driving in two runs.
  • Senior Kaitlyn Snyder added a stolen base.


Looking Ahead
Molloy opens ECC play on Saturday (Mar. 30) as they welcome Mercy College to Bob Klein Field at 12:00 p.m.
