Baseball Drops Doubleheader to NYIT

Uniondale, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team dropped a doubleheader to the NYIT Bears Sunday afternoon at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. The Lions moved to 3-14 overall and 0-4 in ECC play. The Bears are 12-4 overall and 4-0 in league play.

Game One: NYIT 7, Molloy 5
  • The Bears scored three runs in the second to go up 3-0.
  • After NYIT went ahead 4-0 in the top of the fourth, freshman Chris Peralta, who tallied two hits and scored one run, hit an RBI single to left field, and junior Jake Saltzman, who collected two hits, hit an RBI single to right field to cut the lead to 4-2.
  • The away team plated three runs in the top of the fourth to increase its lead to 7-2.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, redshirt freshman Thomas Brady hit a sacrifice fly to right field, which scored senior Michael Wall.
  • Senior Ryan Hensley hit a sac fly in the eighth to shrink the Bears' advantage to 7-4.
  • Molloy threatened to tie the score in the ninth. Senior Nick Marino grounded out to second to score freshman Robby Keane and make it a 7-5 contest. With runners on second and third and two outs, NYIT escaped the jam.
Game Two: NYIT 5, Molloy 3
  • The Bears tallied one run in the second and one in the fourth to take a 2-0 advantage.
  • In the fifth, junior Sean Hogan and Marino recorded RBI singles to knot the score at two.
  • Sophomore Michael Nacinovich hit an RBI single to right to put the Lions up 3-2 in the top of the sixth.
  • NYIT plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth en route to a 5-3 victory.
Looking Ahead
  • The maroon and white hosts East Stroudsburg Wednesday, March 27. First pitch with the Warriors is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
