Uniondale, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team fell to the NYIT Bears, 12-10, Friday afternoon at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. The Lions moved to 3-11 overall and 0-1 in ECC play. The Bears improved to 9-4 overall and 1-0 in league play.

How it Happened

• The Bears plated five runs in the first and one in the second to take a 6-0 lead.
• In the bottom of the second, junior Jake Saltzman hit an RBI single through the right side to cut NYIT's advantage to 6-1.
• The away team scored one run in the third to make it 7-1.
• Molloy scored one run in the bottom of the third on a groundout  by redshirt freshman Thomas Brady, which scored sophomore James Messina, to shrink the visitor's lead to 7-2.
• The Bears tallied one run in the fourth and two in the sixth to extend their lead to 10-2.
• Sophomore Jake McCarthy scored on a wild pitch in the seventh to make it a 10-3 contest.
• NYIT added a run in the eighth to go up 11-3.
• In the bottom of the eighth, Saltzman hit a two-run triple to cut the Bears lead to 11-5.
• With the away team ahead 12-5 in the ninth, the Lions threatened to tie the score. Messina hit a two-run single to make it 12-7. Senior Nick Marino scored on a throwing error to cut the lead to 12-8. Saltzman hit an RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch to cut Tech's advantage to 12-10, but that was as close as Molloy would get.

Top Performances

• Saltzman tallied four hits and drove in five runs.
• Messina collected three hits, scored two runs, and recorded one RBI.
• McCarthy registered two hits and scored a run.
