Softball Downed by Merrimack

North Andover, Mass. – The softball team competed its season-opening road trip at Merrimack College, falling twice to the Warriors to sit at 7-12 on the season to date.
 
Game 1: Molloy 3, Merrimack 4 (8 Innings)
  • The maroon and white were first on the board following a sacrifice fly from sophomore Courtney Greene scored freshman Alex Burns.
  • The home team, however, plated three runs in the home half of the first inning on back-to-back RBI triples plus an RBI single.
  • Redshirt sophomore Mikaela Tribby drew a leadoff walk in the fourth inning before being driven home on a double by freshman Lauren Ramos to bring Molloy within one.
  • A single from sophomore Tonianne Larson knotted the score 3-3 two batters later.
  • The score remained tied through the conclusion of seven innings. The Lions were unable to plate a run in the top of the eighth, and fell victim to a walk-off single in the home half of the inning.
  • Burns led the Lions with two hits while Greene and Larson recorded RBIs for the maroon and white.
  • Larson tossed six innings in the loss.
 
Game 2: Molloy 0, Merrimack 2
  • The Warriors scored in each of the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead.
  • Molloy's best chance of the afternoon came in the top of the fourth following Ramos reaching on a fielder's choice and senior Tara Byrnes drawing a walk, but the team was unable to score.
  • The Lions were held to just three hits on the contest, coming off the bats of Burns, senior Kaitlyn Snyder, and freshman Amanda King.
  • Snyder also added a stolen base.
  • Senior Jenna Turato tossed all six innings in the loss.
 
Looking Ahead
Molloy will open the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday (Mar. 19) against local rival Adelphi University at 3:30 p.m.
