Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Concordia

Uniondale, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team split a doubleheader with the Concordia Clippers Saturday afternoon at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. The Lions moved to 2-9.

Game One: Molloy 17, Concordia 10
  • The Clippers scored nine runs in the top of the first.
  • In the bottom of the frame, freshman Chris Peralta hit a solo home run, and junior Sean Hogan added an RBI double to cut the lead to 9-2.
  • With the score 10-2, Molloy plated four runs in the bottom of the second. Senior Michael Wall blasted a two-run home run to make it 10-4. Sophomore Matt Overton tallied an RBI double, and redshirt freshman Thomas Brady capped the rally with a sacrifice fly.
  • The maroon and white used an eight-run third to go ahead 14-10. Peralta, who was 3-for-4 with four RBIs, started the inning with a two-run single. Overton and Brady recorded RBI singles to knot the score at 10. Junior Jake Saltzman put the home team ahead with a two-RBI triple. After an RBI single from Jake McCarthy, Wall, who was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, brought McCarthy home with a double.
  • In the fourth, Peralta drilled an RBI triple to left center, and Overton, who was 4-for-6 with three RBIs, hit an RBI double.
  • Molloy increased its advantage to 17-10 with an RBI single from Brady, who was 3-for-5 with three RBIs.
  • Senior Anthony Pedraita pitched 2.1 innings and struck out three batters in relief to record his first win of the season.
  • Senior James Murphy pitched six shutout innings and fanned three for his first career save.
Game Two: Concordia 13, Molloy 6
  • Concordia tallied two runs in the first and four in the second to take an early 6-0 lead.
  • With the bases loaded in the second, senior Nick Marino walked. Later in the frame, Hogan scored on a wild pitch. Junior James Messina capped the four-run frame with a two-RBI single.
  • The Clippers added a run in the third to increase their advantage to 7-4.
  • McCarthy responded in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single.
  • The away team scored six runs in the fourth to extend its lead to 13-5.
Looking Ahead
  • The maroon and white plays Dominican tomorrow, March 17. First pitch with the Chargers is scheduled for noon.
