Baseball Edged by No. 8 SNHU, 4-3

Miami Shores, Fla. – The Molloy baseball team was defeated by the No. 8 Southern New Hampshire Penmen, 4-3, in the Barry Invitational Tuesday afternoon at Feinbloom Field. The Lions moved to 1-7. The Penmen improved to 12-3.

How it Happened
  • The Lions struck first in the bottom of the first. With the bases loaded, junior Jake Saltzman walked, which allowed junior James Messina to score, to make it 1-0.
  • The Penmen scored two runs in the second to go ahead 2-1.
  • Southern New Hampshire added a run in the fifth to increase its lead to 3-1.
  • Molloy knotted the score at three in the sixth. With runners on second and third, Saltzman hit a sac fly, which scored sophomore Matt Overton. Later in the frame, redshirt freshman Thomas Brady scored on a wild pitch.
  • The Penmen took a 4-3 lead in the seventh.
  • The Lions had runners on first and second and two outs in the ninth, but failed to plate the tying run.
Top Performances
  • Messina tallied two hits and scored one run.
  • Saltzman recorded two RBIs.
  • Senior Anthony Auletta pitched 5.2 innings, gave up three runs on five hits, and struck out five batters in the no decision.
Looking Ahead
  • The maroon and white concludes the Barry Invitational tomorrow, March 13 against American International. First pitch with the Yellow Jackets is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
