Offense Powers Baseball Past Adelphi

Miami Shore, Fla. – The Molloy baseball team defeated the Adelphi Panthers, 12-5, in the Barry Invitational Sunday afternoon at Feinbloom Field. The Lions improved to 1-6. The Panthers fell to 3-2.

How it Happened
  • Junior Jake Saltzman put the Lions ahead 1-0 with a solo home run to left field in the top of the second.
  • Molloy tallied four runs in the top of the fourth. With the bases loaded, freshman Chris Peralta hit a bases clearing double to increase the Lions' advantage to 4-0. Junior Sean Hogan hit an RBI single, which scored Peralta, and made it 5-0.
  • Senior Michael Wall blasted an RBI double off the center field fence to extend the maroon and white's lead to 6-0 in the top of the fifth.
  • The Panthers scored two runs in the bottom half of the fifth and the sixth to cut the Lions' lead to 6-4.
  • Junior Matt Overton hit a solo home run to left center to make it 7-4 in the seventh. Later in the frame, Wall hit an RBI double to center to increase the advantage to 8-4.
  • With the bases full, Saltzman drilled a grand slam to left field to extend Molloy's lead to 12-4.
  • Adelphi scored one run in the eighth.
Top Performances
  • Saltzman tallied four hits (two home runs), scored three runs, and drove in five runs.
  • Wall hit two doubles and drove in two runs.
  • Overton collected three hits (one home run), one RBI, and scored two runs.
  • Peralta tallied one hit and three RBIs.
  • Redshirt freshman Thomas Brady recorded two hits and two runs scored.
  • Redshirt junior Timothy Panetta threw 5.2 innings, gave up four runs, two earned, and struck out six for his first win of the season.
Looking Ahead
  • The maroon and white plays Southern New Hampshire at the Barry Invitational Tuesday, March 12. First pitch with the Penmen is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Feinbloom Field.
