Jenkins' 29 Points Leads Men's Basketball in Senior Night Victory Over UDC

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - Led by 29 points from senior Curtis Jenkins, the men's basketball team defeated the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia. Molloy sits at 18-8 on the season and 14-3 in East Coast Conference play with the victory.

How it Happened

  • The maroon and white trailed, 15-12, after seven minutes of play.
  • An 18-3 run from the home team, including 10 points from Jenkins, put the home team in front, 30-18, with 7 minutes let in the first half.
  • The Firebirds rallied to come within one with four minutes in the half, but the Lions took a 41-32 lead into the break.
  • Molloy maintained its lead in the second half, jumping out to a 59-44 lead after a 10-0 run with 11 minutes remaining in the contest.
  • With 5:42 on the clock, UDC came within six, 62-56, but the Lions ended the contest on a 6-2 run to earn the victory.

Top Performances

  • Jenkins had a game-high 29 points in the effort, going 7-of-16 from the field and 15-of-19 from the foul line. The senior also added seven rebounds, three assists, a game-high four steals, and two blocks. 
  • Senior Mike Torre and junior Nick Corbett each netted 13 points for the Lions with Torre added a team-leading nine rebounds to go with two assists, two steals, and one block. 
  • Redshirt sophomore Justin Caldwell also pulled down nine rebounds while freshman Billy Muller recording two blocks. 
  • Senior Derrick Okunpolor and junior Josh Dennis each nabbed two steals for the maroon and white.
 

Looking Ahead

Molloy will take on Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday (Mar. 2) at 3:00 p.m. in Sparkill, N.Y. The winner of the contest will secure a first round bye in the East Coast Conference Tournament.
