Women's Lacrosse Rallies to Defeat Southern Connecticut in Season-Opener

New Haven, Conn. – The Molloy women's lacrosse team opened the season with a 14-12 come-from-behind victory over the Southern Connecticut Owls Sunday afternoon at Jess Dow Field.

How it Happened
  • Southern Connecticut netted the first two goals of the contest to take an early 2-0 lead.
  • Molloy responded with three straight tallies, two from senior Casie Caiazza and one from senior Michaela Siegler, to take a 3-2 advantage.
  • The Owls scored three of next four goals to go ahead 5-4.
  • Junior Amanda Reyes knotted the match at five.
  • SCSU led 6-5 at the break.
  • Down 8-6, redshirt senior Ali Pfeifer and Siegler found the back of the net to tie the contest at eight.
  • The home team went on a 4-0 rally to make it 12-8.
  • The Lions ended the match with six consecutive goals, two from Pfeifer, two from senior Brianna Wilson, and one apiece from Siegler and Caiazza, on their way to a 14-12 victory.
Top Performances
  • Wilson tallied a game-high nine points (three goals and six assists).
  • Pfeifer netted four goals.
  • Siegler and Caiazza scored three goals each.
  • Senior Emily Bauer picked up three ground balls and caused one turnover.
  • Sophomore Allie Long made six saves.

  • "When we were down, everyone did their job to help us comeback and get the win," head coach Tom Campolettano said.
