Nine Score In Men's Lacrosse Victory at Wheeling Jesuit

Wheeling, W.Va. – The men's lacrosse team earned its first victory of the season, defeating Wheeling Jesuit University, 10-8, at Bishop Schmitt Field. The maroon and white saw nine different goal scorers in a team victory.
 
How it Happened
  • The Molloy offense fired from the opening whistle, scoring the first five goals of the contest, all at even strength.
  • Freshman Anthony Teresky had two points in the first five minutes of action, scoring an unassisted goal to open the contest before assisting on a marker by sophomore Jack Egan.
  • Senior Michael Scheuerer assisted on goals from juniors Travis Cooksey and Brandon Leon. Junior Jeff Hauser scored Molloy's fifth goal of the first quarter.
  • The lone goal of the second quarter came off the stick of freshman Brian Ford, giving the visitors a 6-1 lead at the half.
  • The Cardinals opened the second half with a goal, but the maroon and white responded with a man-up goal from junior Kevin Pastier, assisted by freshman Robert Lopez.
  • Wheeling Jesuit netted the next three goals of the contest to come within two with 13 minutes left to play.
  • Pastier netted his second man-up goal of the game, this time on an assist from sophomore Nick Del Giorno.
  • The Cardinals once again came within two, but junior Colin Kotarski and freshman Richie Polizzi Jr. each scored to give the Lions a four-goal cushion in the final three minutes of play.
  • The Lions held on to take the contest, 10-8.
 
Top Performances
  • Pasiter, Teresky, and Scheuerer each tallied two points in the effort.
  • Egan, Leon, Cooksey, Polizzi Jr., Ford, Kotarski, and Hauser each added goals for Molloy while Del Giorno and Lopez each recorded an assist.
  • Senior Justin English went 15-of-20 on face-offs for Molloy while picking up a game-high eight ground balls.
  • Senior Mike Durkin also scooped up eight ground balls while forcing a game-high four turnovers.
  • Sophomore Michael Kessler made nine saves in his debut with the maroon and white in the victory. Freshman James O'Grady made one stop in relief.
 
Coach's Comments
"It's always great to start off a game well, which we accomplished," commented head coach Bernard Dell'Aquila. "Things got a little bumpy but we perservered."

Looking Ahead
Molloy continues its seven-game opening road series on Saturday (Feb. 23) at Southern New Hampshire University. Face-off with the Penmen is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
