Women's Basketball Defeats UDC in ECC-Opener, 67-51

Washington, D.C. – The Molloy women's basketball team topped the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds, 67-51, Saturday afternoon in its ECC-opener at the UDC Gym.  The Lions improved to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in league play, while the Firebirds fell to 3-7 overall and 0-1 in ECC Play. 

How it Happened
  • Graduate student Kadijah Dickson scored four of the Lions' first six points to give them an early 6-2 lead.
  • With Molloy up 9-7, the Firebirds went on an 8-0 rally to go ahead 15-9.
  • Junior Gabriella Aspuru and senior Kathryn Gibson hit back-to-back three-pointers, and the game was tied at 15 at the end of the first frame.
  • With UDC up 17-15, graduate student Robyn Francis tallied seven straight points to put the maroon and white ahead 22-17.
  • Up 22-19, the Lions went on a 14-0 run, sparked by four points from Dickson and junior Giolibeth Perez, to increase their advantage to 36-19.
  • Molloy led 36-21 at the half.
  • With the road team leading 42-29, UDC netted six consecutive points to make it 42-35.
  • The visitors led 46-35 after 30 minutes of play.
  • With a 48-40 lead, the Lions went on a 13-0 run, led by four points from Aspuru and Dickson, to increase its lead to 61-40 en route to a 67-51 victory.
Top Performances
  • Aspuru tallied a season-high 19 points, on 6-of-11 shooting, and grabbed eight rebounds.
  • Dickson netted 16 points, on 7-of-12 shooting, and recorded seven rebounds.
  • Francis scored 13 points, and Perez added nine points.

  • The maroon and white travels to play the College of Staten Island Wednesday, December 11. The game with the Dolphins is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
