Philadelphia, Pa. – The Molloy women's soccer team defeated the Chestnut Hill Griffins, 4-0, Wednesday evening at Victory Field #1. The Lions, who have won six straight matches, improved to 11-3-1 with the win, while the Griffins fell to 3-13.
How It Happened
- Sophomore Lexi Verni gathered her own rebound and scored in the 16th minute to put Molloy ahead 1-0.
- In the 34th minute, Verni touched a pass from junior Dana Poetzsch into an open net to increase the Lions' advantage to 2-0.
- Poetzsch netted a goal from the top of the box to put the maroon and white up 3-0 in the 43rd minute.
- Senior Amy D'Eloia added a tally in the 60th minute to make it a 4-0 contest.
Top Performances
- Junior Jackie Carty set the program's all-time shutout record with 20. The goalkeeper made three saves and has a career-high nine clean sheets on the season.
- Verni recorded her first multi-goal match of 2019 and is second on the team with eight goals.
- Poetzsch leads the ECC in goals (18) and points (41).
- D'Eloia netted her first goal of the season.
