Women's Soccer Tops East Stroudsburg, 1-0

East Stroudsburg, Pa. – The Molloy women's soccer team defeated the East Stroudsburg Warriors, 1-0, Monday evening at Eiler-Martin Stadium. The Lions improved to 10-3-1, while the Warriors fell to 9-4. The win marked the first time the program has recorded double-digit wins since 2006 when it won a program-best 14 matches.

How it Happened
  • Sophomore Sabrina Bell created the Lions' first chance in the 12th minute, but her shot was stopped.
  • In the 28th minute, freshman Sarah Tappeto had a shot saved by ESU goalkeeper Mauri Jackson.
  • The Warriors created chances in the 31st and 36th minutes, but their tries were stopped by junior goalkeeper Jackie Carty.
  • The match was scoreless at the half.
  • Junior Dana Poetzsch led sophomore Lexi Verni on a fast break, which led to a goal in the 47th minute and gave the maroon and white a 1-0 lead.
  • Carty made two saves in the second frame to help the Lions secure a 1-0 victory.

  • Verni has scored in back-to-back contests and is second on the team with six goals.
  • Poetzsch leads the team with four assists.
  • Carty made five saves to record her eighth shutout of the season, which is a career-high. The junior has 19 clean sheets in her career, which tied Christina Aquilon for the program record.
