Women's Basketball Inched by STAC, 52-50

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy women's basketball team fell to the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans, 52-50, Saturday afternoon at Quealy Gymnasium. The Lions fell to 6-12 overall and 1-7 in ECC play. The Spartans moved to 16-2 overall and 7-0 in conference play.

How it Happened
  • The Spartans jumped out to a 5-0 advantage.
  • The Lions outscored St. Thomas Aquinas 8-3, led by three points from junior Jenna Silletti and senior Ihnacinse Grady, to knot the score at eight.
  • STAC led 15-13 at the end of the first quarter.
  • With the away team ahead 19-17, it went on a 9-0 run to extend its lead to 28-17.
  • Molloy ended the half on a 13-4 rally, led by six points from freshman Katie McSweeney and five points from freshman Ellen Iversen, and trailed 32-30 at the break.
  • Silletti opened the third frame with a jumper to tie the contest at 32.
  • With STAC ahead 34-32, the Lions netted nine consecutive points, led by four points from sophomore Melody Prichard, and took a 41-34 advantage.
  • The maroon and white led 43-38 at the end of 30 minutes of play.
  • The away team went ahead 47-45 with 4:24 left.
  • The Lions evened the score, 47-47, on a layup from redshirt senior Tyra Harrison with 3:57 remaining.
  • The Spartans tallied the next four points to go up 51-47.
  • Prichard hit a three-pointer to cut STAC's lead to 51-50 with 39 seconds left, but that was as close as the home team would get.
Top Performances
  • Silletti netted a team-high 12 points. The junior grabbed six rebounds and tallied two blocks.
  • Harrison and Prichard logged nine points each.
  • Iversen recorded eight points and eight rebounds.
  • McSweeney registered a career-high seven points.
Looking Ahead
  • The maroon and white hosts Queens Wednesday, January 23. Tip-off with the Knights is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Quealy Gymnasium.
