Women's Basketball Slips Against Roberts Wesleyan

Rochester, N.Y. – The Molloy women's basketball team was defeated by the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks, 74-56, Sunday afternoon at the Voller Athletic Center. The Lions moved to 6-10 overall and 1-5 in ECC play. The Redhawks improved to 6-9 overall and 2-3 in conference play. 

How it Happened
  • The Redhawks jumped out to an early 12-2 advantage. 
  • The Lions tallied the next five points, on a layup from sophomore Gabriella Aspuru and a three-pointer from senior Ihnacinse Grady, to cut the home team's lead to 12-7. 
  • Roberts Wesleyan led 15-7 after the first frame.
  • Aspuru and Grady opened the second quarter with back-to-back triples to make it 15-13. 
  • Roberts Wesleyan led 25-20 at the half. 
  • Aspuru hit a three to trim the Redhawks' advantage to 38-34 with 4:38 left in the third stanza.
  • The home team outscored the Lions 14-6 to end the third and led 52-40 at the end of 30 minutes of play. 
  • The visitors started the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run, led by three-pointers from sophomore Melody Prichard and redshirt senior Tyra Harrison, to make it a 52-47 game with 7:54 left, but that was as close as the Lions would get. 
Top Performances 
  • Aspuru netted a team-high 13 points. 
  • Grady and junior Kathryn Gibson tallied nine points each.
  • Freshman Ellen Iversen grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, and junior Jenna Silletti tied a season-high with five assists.
Looking Ahead 
  • The maroon and white heads to the University of the District of Columbia Wednesday, January 16. Tip-off with the Firebirds is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
