Field Hockey Nets Program-High Four Goals in Victory of SCSU

New Haven, Conn. – The field hockey team picked up its second consecutive victory of the season, the first winning streak in the program's history, in a program-high 4-1 defeat of Southern Connecticut University. Molloy improved to 2-0 with the win.
 
How it Happened
  • Reshirt senior Zoe Norton put the Lions on the board in the 17th minute, burying a cross shot to the right side of the net on a feed from freshman Shaelin de Wit, the rookie's first collegiate point.
  • de Wit added a second helper on a goal from senior Ellyn Byrnes in the 32nd minute of play. The senior's first collegiate goal came off a cross to the left side, beating the goalkeeper in the lower right hand corner.
  • The Owls got on the board in the second half on a goal from Natalia Prukalski in the 43rd minute, tipping in a shot off a scramble in front of the Lions' net.
  • Freshman Kyra Dalli regained the visitors' two-goal lead in the 64th minute, pushing a pass from Byrnes through the bottom right corner of the net.
  • Sophomore Nadia Elcock added her second goal of the season in the 67th minute, finishing a cross from Dalli to set the score at 4-1.
Key Performances
  • The maroon and white defense came out strong for the second straight game, holding Southern Connecticut to just five shots on goal.
  • Dalli led the Lions with three points on one goal and one assist.
  • Norton fired a game-high six shots, four of which were on target.
  • Senior goalkeeper Tara Byrnes allowed one goal, making four saves in the effort.
 
Looking Ahead
The Lions return to Cedar Creek on Friday (Sept. 7) as they host Lindenwood University at 3:00 p.m.
