Caldwell, N.J. – The Molloy women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the season this afternoon, defeating the Cougars of Caldwell University 6-1 at the CU Tennis Court. The Lions improved to 1-2 with the victory, earning the team's first victory since Sept. 25, 2016.
How It Happened
- Molloy swept doubles play, despite only needing to win two of the three matches for the point. In first doubles, senior Megan Scali and graduate student Danielle Bloecker picked up a 6-3 victory. Juniors Montaine Le Goupil-Maier and Samantha Bloecker took their contest, 6-1, in second doubles, while graduate student Katie Alexanderson and freshman Briana Gonzalez swept their match, 6-0.
- Le Goupil-Maier took first singles, 7-5, 6-0.
- Samantha Bloecker took consecutive sets by a score of 6-1 in her singles victory.
- Scali dropped the first game, 7-5, before rallying to a 6-4 second game. The senior then earned the point with a 6-2 tiebreaker.
- Alexanderson and Gonzalez each added 8-0 pro sets to earn the 6-1 victory for Molloy.
Looking Ahead
The maroon and white return to conference play on Saturday (Sept. 22) as they head to Sparkill for a contest with Saint Thomas Aquinas College.
