Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy women's soccer team defeated the Georgian Court Lions, 2-1, in its home opener Tuesday evening at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions improved to 1-3-1. GCU moved to 4-3.

How it Happened

• Junior Mikayla Canales put the home team ahead 1-0 with a goal in the 40^th minute.
• Georgian Court knotted the match in the 75^th minute on a tally from junior Kaitlin Lister.
• Molloy went ahead 47 seconds later after freshman Lexi Verni found the back of the net.

Top Performances

• Canales netted her first collegiate goal in the contest.
• Verni has scored in back-to-back matches and is tied for the team-lead with two goals. The freshman led the team with six shots.
• Sophomore Jackie Carty, who leads the East Coast Conference with 57 saves, made eight stops in the win.
• The Lions are 1-0 at John A. Darcy Field this season.

Coach's Comments

• "We got our first win of the season over a quality opposition," head coach Steve Price said. "We needed this win badly, just for confidence. It's been a tough start to the season, but everyone has bought into what we're trying to do. The big difference between this game and the previous four was how organized they were as a unit.

• The maroon and white hosts LIU Post Saturday, September 22. The match with the Pioneers is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
