Women's Soccer Rallies to Draw Bentley


North Andover, Mass. – The Molloy women's soccer team used a second-half rally to draw the Bentley Falcons, 2-2, Saturday afternoon at Martone-Mejail Field in the Merrimack Tournament. The Lions moved to 0-1-1.

How it Happened
  • Bentley (1-0-1) opened the scoring with a goal from sophomore Rebecca Nguyen in the 18th minute.
  • The Falcons increased their lead to 2-0 in the 47th minute on a tally from sophomore Emma Guccione.
  • Freshman Joanna Graca found the back of the net to cut Bentley's advantage to 2-1 in the 55th minute.
  • In the 60th minute, senior Amanda Milazzo tied the match at two with a goal.
  • The maroon and white's best chance in overtime came off the foot of freshman Lexi Verni, but her try was stopped by Bentley goalkeeper Kat Hassapis in the 93rd minute.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Jackie Carty made six saves in overtime to keep the match even.
Top Performances
  • Graca recorded her first collegiate goal in the draw.
  • Milazzo registered her first goal of the 2018 campaign.
  • East Coast Conference Preseason Player of the Year Dana Poetzsch logged her first assist of the season.
  • Carty made a career-high 14 saves and has made 26 stops in two matches.
  • Verni led the Lions with four shots, three on goal.

  • "After going two goals down, the team showed a lot of character to fight back against a good side and earn a well-deserved tie," head coach Steve Price said.
Looking Ahead
  • Molloy returns to action Thursday, September 6 when it travels to Stonehill. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
