Seaford, N.Y. – The field hockey team opened the 2018 season with a 2-0 victory over Keystone College at Cedar Creek Park.
How it Happened
- The Lions got on the board on a goal from sophomore Nadia Elcock, assisted by freshman Kyra Dalli, in the 28th.minute of action.
- Just eight minutes later, redshirt senior Zoe Norton converted a penalty stroke to double Molloy's lead, 2-0, to end the first half.
- Despite being outshot 6-2 in the second half of play, the Molloy defense kept the Giants off the scoreboard for the shutout victory.
Key Performances
- Senior goalkeeper Tara Byrnes made five saves in her first collegiate shutout.
- Norton led the Lions with four shots, three of which were on goal.
- Dalli recorded three shots to go along with an assists in her collegiate debut.
Coach's Comments
"It was a great start to our season. We played together, our communication was great and we never let up for a second," said head coach
Trish Bonagura, following her first victory with the Lions. "The defensive line was incredible today, as well as Tara coming up with some huge saves."
Looking Ahead
The maroon and white return to action on Monday (Sept. 3) against Southern Connecticut State University. The game is set to kick off at 2:00 p.m. from New Haven, Conn.
