Women's Soccer Falls in Season Opener at Merrimack

North Andover, Mass. – The Molloy women's soccer team fell to the Merrimack Warriors, 3-0, in its season opener Thursday evening at Martone-Mejail Field. The Lions moved to 0-1 with the loss. The Warriors improved to 1-0.

How it Happened
  • Merrimack opened the scoring in the 31st minute on a goal from sophomore Izzy McDonald.
  • In the second half, senior Tori Daigle netted a goal in the 47th minute, and sophomore Kailee Stobbe found the back of the net in the 79th minute to put the home team up 3-0.
  • The Lions best chance in the first half came off the foot of sophomore Dana Poetzsch, but her try was denied by junior keeper Erin Fulton in the 23rd minute.
  • Molloy almost scored in the 83rd minute when freshman Lexi Verni hit the post. Verni then had a shot stopped by Fulton in the 85th minute.
Top Performances
  • Sophomore Jackie Carty made a career-high 12 saves in the loss.
  • Verni led the Lions with six shots, one on goal, in her first collegiate match.
Coach's Comments
  • "We are a young team and came up against a very good, strong unit. We will learn from the match, improve, and be better going forward," head coach Steve Price said.
Looking Ahead
  • The maroon and white play Bentley Saturday, September 1 in the Merrimack Tournament. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
