Softball Reaches 20 Wins in Sweep of STAC

Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Apr. 8, 2018) - Junior Jenna Turato and freshman Courtney Greene each tossed a complete game to lead the softball team to two victories over Saint Thomas Aquinas College. With the wins, the Lions reach the 20-win mark, improving to 20-12 (8-2 East Coast Conference) on the season.

Game One: Molloy 2, STAC 0
For three scoreless innings, Turato and STAC pitcher Colleen Borum found themselves in a pitcher's duel. In the bottom of the fourth, junior Kaitlyn Snyder singled to left field for just the second hit of the game. The second baseman stole second before advancing to third on a ground out by senior Olivia Banulski. Greene pushed the first pitch of her at bat through the right side to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. After a single from senior Sarah Rambo, senior Brianna Dalton singled up the middle to double Molloy's lead, 2-0.

Turato, who had a perfect game through five innings, allowed just two hits on the performance. The junior recorded six strikeouts, improving to 11-6 on the season.

Rambo and Snyder each went 2-of-3 for the maroon and white, with Snyder adding a stolen base. Greene and Dalton each picked up RBIs in the victory.

Game Two: Molloy 7, STAC 1
The bats were active early for the Lions in the second game. A double from Banulski after a walk to Snyder put two runners in scoring position for Rambo, who singled to third base to give Molloy a 1-0 lead. The following at bat, a double steal from Banulski and Rambo gave the home team a 2-0 lead.

Greene hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning to increase the lead to 3-0.

The Spartans scored its lone run of the afternoon in the fifth inning on an RBI double to left field, cutting the deficit to just two runs, 3-1.

The Lions responded in the home half of the inning. Junior Tara Byrnes singled to start the inning before Snyder sent the ball over the left field wall to put Molloy in front, 5-1. Banulski walked and was driven in on a double from Rambo. Dalton then drove in Rambo with a double to right to give the Lions a 7-1 lead.

Rambo went 2-for-3 at the plate for Molloy with a double, a stolen base, and a run scored. Rambo and Snyder, who went 1-of-2 with a home run and three runs scored, each drove in two runs. Greene and Dalton each added RBIs in the effort.

Greene tossed her second complete game, allowing just one run on five hits while recording one strikeout. The freshman improved to 4-3 with the win.

The maroon and white return to action on Tuesday (Apr. 10) as they head to LIU Post for an ECC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. from Brookville, N.Y.
