Kotarski Nets Second Hat Trick in 9-6 Victory Over Chestnut Hill

Lafayette Hill, Pa. (Apr. 3, 2018) – A five-goal second quarter propelled the men's lacrosse team to a 9-6 victory over Chestnut Hill College, setting the Lions at 5-4 on the season. Sophomore Colin Kotarski recorded his second career hat trick with three goals in the effort.

After falling behind 3-0, the maroon and white tied the contest on two goals from Kotarski and one from sophomore Gabe Garcia, all in the final two minutes of the opening quarter.

Molloy continued its scoring run in the second frame, putting up five markers. Garcia added his second goal of the game while juniors Michael Scheuerer, Mike Durkin, and Justin English and freshman Nick Del Giorno all found the back of the net to give the Lions an 8-3 lead. Chestnut Hill ended the quarter with two goals to come within three, 8-5, at the half.

Kotarski completed the hat trick in the third quarter to extend the visitors' lead to 9-5. The Griffins closed the game's scoring in the fourth frame to come within three, 9-6. Molloy goalie Ryan Toomey made three saves in the final four minutes to earn his fifth win of the season.

Scheuerer (one goal, one assist), Garcia (two goals), and Del Giorno (one goal, one assist) each recorded two points in the effort. English went 10-of-17 on face-offs for the Lions, picking up a game-high six ground balls while junior Jake Vollaro caused two turnovers. Toomey made 11 saves in the victory.

The Lions return to action on Thursday (Apr. 5) as they face the Georgian Court University Lions in Lakewood, N.J. at 3:30 p.m.
