Softball Falls in Regular Season Finale

Sparkill, N.Y. (Apr. 29, 2018) - The softball team fell in a doubleheader at Saint Thomas Aquinas College in the final regular season contests of the 2018 season. The Lions finish the season with a 27-23 overall record, going 13-11 in East Coast Conference play. At the conclusion of the season, Molloy ranks third in the league and will appear in the Championship Tournament for the 10th straight season. 
 

Game One: Molloy 0, STAC 9 (Five Innings)

The Lions were held to just two hits in the first game, a single from senior Brianna Dalton in the fourth inning and a triple from freshman Jaclyn Rodriguez in the fifth. 

The Spartans scored seven of its nine runs via home runs, including two three-run shots from catcher Amanda Leone. 

Game Two: Molloy 4, STAC 5
The contest remained scoreless after the first two innings of play. Senior Olivia Banulski scored on a wild pitch in the top of the third to give Molloy its first run of the afternoon. 

STAC tied the contest in the home half of the inning on a sacrifice fly.

Freshman Courtney Greene led off the fourth inning with a single to right field before Dalton drove her in with a single to centerfield to give the Lions a 2-1 lead. 

The Spartans took a lead in the bottom of the fifth after Caitlyn Francoeur drove in two runs with a single. 

Senior Chrissy Heyer singled to left field to tie the game, 3-3, in the seventh before a Greene single put Molloy in front, 4-3, headed into the bottom of the seventh inning. 

In the final half inning, STAC scored two runs on a fielding error and an RBI ground out to earn the victory in the season finale. 

The third-seeded Lions will take on the second-seeded Mavericks of Mercy College on Wednesday (May 2) at 12:00 p.m. at Smith Field.
