Klotsche Sets All-Time Saves Record; Baseball Takes Two From LIU Post

Uniondale, N.Y. (Apr. 28, 2018) – The Molloy baseball team swept a doubleheader against the LIU Post Pioneers on senior day.  The Lions won the first game 3-2 and the second game 3-1. The maroon and white improved to 25-19 overall and 17-6 in conference play.

Game One: Molloy 3, LIU Post 2

Senior Angelo Navetta led the Lions with two hits and two RBIs in the first game.

Molloy opened the scoring in the second inning. Junior Michael Wall grounded into a double play, which scored senior Elijah Leerdam and made it 1-0.

Navetta collected RBI singles in the third and fifth innings to increase the lead to 3-0.

LIU Post (25-16, 13-6 ECC) plated runs in the eighth and ninth innings to cut the maroon and white's lead to 3-2.

Senior Kevin Hiss threw 8.1 innings, gave up two runs on six hits, and struck out two to move to 7-3 on the season.

Senior Shawn Klotsche recorded the final two outs of the game for his seventh save of the year. The save was the 15th of his career, which set the program's all-time record.

Game Two: Molloy 3, LIU Post 1

The Pioneers scored a run in the first to go ahead 1-0.

The Lions took the lead, 2-1, on RBI singles from sophomore Sean Hogan and freshman Jake McCarthy in the second and third innings, respectively.

Leerdam drilled a double down the left field line to extend the home team's lead to 3-1 in the fifth.

Redshirt sophomore Timothy Panetta threw a complete game and struck out six batters to improve to 3-2 on the season.

The Lions and the Pioneers conclude their series tomorrow at LIU Post.  First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
