Sparkill, N.Y. (Apr 21, 2018) - A goal off the stick of senior Tim Steinman sealed a 7-6 overtime victory against St. Thomas Aquinas College in East Coast Conference play. The victory set the Lions at 8-5 on the season and 1-3 in league play.
The Spartans took a 2-0 lead in the opening minutes of play, but the maroon and white scored three goals in five minutes to end the first quarter up, 3-2.
STAC tied the contest in the first 90 seconds of the second frame, but goals from Steinman and junior Justin English gave Molloy a two-goal, 5-3 lead at the break.
Scoring in the third quarter belonged to the home team, and the teams headed to the final quarter of regulation tied, 5-5.
Sophomore Kevin Pastier broke the knot with 6:50 left to play, but just under two minutes later STAC found the back of the net and tied the score for the fourth time of the afternoon, forcing an extra frame.
Steinman's marker came with 1:50 left to play, giving Molloy its first ECC victory of the season.The senior led the team with three goals while Pastier totaled three points on one goal and two assists. Junior Michael Scheuerer tallied two points on one goal and one assist. English and freshman Nick Del Giorno each added goals for the Lions in the effort.
Senior Zach Antonette led the defense, scooping up a game-high six ground balls and causing five turnovers. Senior Ryan Toomey made four saves.
The Lions head to Old Westbury on Wednesday (Apr. 25) as they take on New York Institute of Technology at 4:00 p.m.
