Pastier Nets Five in Loss at NYIT, 13-9

Old Westbury, N.Y. (Apr. 25, 2018) – Sophomore Kevin Pastier matched a career-high five goals for the third time this season in a 13-9 loss at New York Institute of Technology at President's Stadium. The Lions sit at 8-6 on the season and 1-4 in East Coast Conference play following the penultimate game of the regular season.

The Bears took an early 2-0 lead, scoring twice in seven seconds. Sophomore Colin Kotarski finished a pass from junior Michael Scheuerer to cut the lead to one goal, but two more markers from the home team set the score at 4-1. Pastier netted his first of the afternoon with two second remaining in the first quarter to cut the deficit in half.

Molloy opened the second frame of play with three straight goals from Kotarski, Pastier, and Scheuerer to take its first lead of the day, 5-4. NYIT scored three goals to end the half up, 7-5, before continuing the scoring streak to set the score at 9-5 with 6:27 remaining in the third quarter.

Pastier scored back-to-back goals on assists from Kotarski and sophomore Travis Cooksey to bring the Lions within two, 9-7, but the Bears ended the stanza with a goal of their own to take a three-goal lead.

The maroon and white were held to just two goals in the fourth quarter off the sticks of Pastier and sophomore Jeff Hauser, ultimately falling 13-9.

Scheuerer (one goal, two assists) and Kotarski (two goals, one assist) each finished with three points for Molloy. Ryan Toomey, Mike Durkin, and Jake Vollaro each picked up three ground balls with Durkin and Vollaro recording two caused turnovers. Toomey made 14 saves in the effort.

The Lions will welcome Roberts Wesleyan College to the Rockville Centre Sports Complex on Saturday (Apr. 28) in a crucial final game of the regular season. A victory over the Redhawks, paired with a loss by District of Columbia to NYIT, would give Molloy its first playoff appearance since the 2015 season. The team will honor its four senior members in a pre-game ceremony with face-off scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
