Uniondale, N.Y. (Apr. 20, 2018) – The Molloy baseball team fell to the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans, 9-8, Friday afternoon at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. The Lions moved to 23-15 overall and 15-2 in ECC play with the loss. Sophomore
Sean Hogan tallied three hits and one RBI, and freshman
Matt Overton collected three hits.
St. Thomas Aquinas (25-9, 11-2 ECC) scored one run in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to go ahead 3-0.
The Spartans added two runs in seventh to extend their lead to 5-0.
In the bottom of the seventh, junior
Michael Wall hit a solo home run to cut the lead to 5-1.
The away team plated two runs in the eighth and ninth to make it a 9-1 game.
The Lions rallied in the bottom half of the ninth. Freshman
Jake McCarthy hit a three-run home run to make it a 9-4 contest. Senior
Angelo Navetta added an RBI single to bring the score to 9-5. With the base loaded, senior
Elijah Leerdam doubled off the center field wall to shrink the lead to 9-7. Hogan capped the seven-run frame with an RBI single.
Molloy and STAC continue its series with a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch from Sparkill, N.Y. is scheduled for noon.
