Bridgeport, Conn. (Apr. 17, 2018) - The softball team scored a season-high 12 runs to split a doubleheader with the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport, improving to 25-15 on the season and 13-5 in East Coast Conference play.
Game One: Molloy 1, UB 5
Molloy, who was held to five hits on the contest, scored its lone run in the top of the sixth inning as senior Olivia Banulski scored on a past ball after doubling to left field.Â
Banulski and senior Brianna Dalton each recorded doubles for the maroon and white while seniors Chrissy Heyer and Alexandra Russo, and freshman Sarah Glaser each tallied hits.Â
Game Two: Molloy 12, UB 5
The Lions trailed, 3-0, after the first inning as UB scored on a passed ball and a home run to right field.Â
Molloy responded by plating four runs in the second inning to take its first lead of the afternoon. Freshman Jaclyn Rodriguez doubled in two runs while junior Kaitlyn Snyder doubled the visitors' lead with a single to left field.Â
In the fourth inning, the maroon and white doubled its lead with another four-run inning on doubles from Russo and freshman Courtney Greene.Â
The Purple Knights came within four in the sixth inning on an RBI single, but the Molloy bats returned to work in the seventh, driving in four more runs on a double from Rodriguez, a sacrifice fly from Snyder, and a two-run single from Greene.Â
Junior Jenna Turato, who pitched a complete seven innings, held UB to just one run in the bottom of the seventh to earn her 15th victory of the season.
Up next, Molloy heads to Flushing to take on the Knights of Queens College. First pitch on Thursday (Apr. 19) is slated for 2:00 p.m.
