Joseph Nastasi hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 14
th inning lifting the Molloy baseball team to a 6-5 win over the NYIT Bears Sunday afternoon at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. The Lions improved to 23-14 overall and 15-1 in league play. Freshman
Matt Overton tallied three hits and one RBI, and sophomore
Sean Hogan collected three hits.
The Lions scored two runs in the first to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Overton opened the scoring with an RBI double down the left field line, and Hogan singled to right field, which allowed Overton to score on a throwing error.
NYIT (6-19-1, 3-13 ECC) tied the game with two runs in the second.
The Bears took a 3-2 advantage in the top of the fourth.
In the bottom of the frame, senior
Elijah Leerdam grounded into a double play, which allowed Overton to score and knot the game, 3-3.
The visitors went up in the top of the eighth, but like it did in the fourth, the maroon and white tied the score in the bottom half of the stanza. Senior
Angelo Navetta grounded out to first to score sophomore
Jake Saltzman.
In extra innings, NYIT scored one run in the 14
th.
In the bottom half of the 14
th, Overton started the inning with a double down the right field line. The freshman then scored on a throwing error. With runners on second and third, Nastasi singled to drive in the winning run.
Junior
Anthony Pedraita pitched two innings to record his first collegiate win.
Molloy travels to play East Stroudsburg Tuesday, Apr. 17. First pitch with the Warriors is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
