Uniondale, N.Y. (Apr. 13, 2018) – The Molloy baseball team defeated the NYIT Bears, 6-5, in 11 innings Friday afternoon at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. The Lions improved to 21-13 overall and 13-0 in conference play. Senior
Angelo Navetta tallied five hits and one RBI, and senior
Jack McCarty collected two hits and drove in one run.
NYIT (5-17-1, 2-11 ECC) scored five runs in the top of the first.
In the bottom of the frame, freshman
Matt Overton drove in McCarty with an RBI single to left field.
McCarty recorded an RBI single to center, and junior
Michael Wall scored on a wild pitch to cut the Bears' lead to 5-3 in the second.
The Lions added another run in the third. Sophomore
James Messina tallied an RBI single to the shortstop to make it a 5-4 contest.
Molloy tied the score in the ninth. Navetta drilled an RBI single to center field to knot the score at five.
With the bases loaded in the 11
th, junior
Nick Marino reached on a throwing error, which allowed sophomore
Jake Saltzman to score the winning run.

Matt Brembs threw a scoreless inning to pick up his second consecutive win.
Molloy travels to NYIT to continue its series with the Bears tomorrow, Apr. 14. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at noon.
