Miami Shores, Fla. (Mar. 9, 2018) – The Molloy baseball team topped the Stonehill Skyhawks, 6-4, Friday afternoon in the Barry Invitational at Feinbloom Field. The Lions improved to 4-7 overall with the victory. Junior
Michael Wall and freshman
Matt Overton tallied two hits apiece for the maroon and white.
Stonehill (6-5) opened the scoring with one run in the top of the second.
The Lions answered in the bottom of the frame. Senior
Jack McCarty grounded out to short, which scored Wall and tied the game at one.
The Skyhawks took the lead in the third with one run and added two runs in the fifth to increase their advantage to 4-1.
Molloy rallied in the bottom of the fifth. Seniors
Angelo Navetta and
Elijah Leerdam walked to begin the frame. Overton was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. With the bases full, sophomore
Sean Hogan walked to cut the lead to 4-2. With one out, junior
Ryan Hensley hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Leerdam. Overton scored on an error to tie the game at four. The maroon and white loaded the bases again, and sophomore
Jake Saltzman capped the rally, where the Lions scored four runs, by getting hit by a pitch.
Wall added an RBI single in the sixth to extend the Lions' lead to 6-4.
Redshirt sophomore
Timothy Panetta threw five innings of relief, allowed two runs on four hits, and struck out six to improve to 1-1 on the season.
Junior
Lucas Burton struck out two batters in two innings to earn his second save of the year.
Molloy continues the Barry Invitational tomorrow, Mar. 10 against Felician. First pitch with the Golden Falcons is slated for 1:00 p.m.
