Uniondale, N.Y (Mar. 30, 2018) – The Molloy baseball team topped the Queens College Knights, 8-4, Friday afternoon at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. The Lions improved to 12-12 overall and 5-0 in league play with the win. Junior
Nick Marino recorded one hit and tallied two RBIs, and sophomore
Sean Hogan collected two hits and one RBI.
Queens (8-11, 1-4 ECC) scored three runs in the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead.
The Lions tallied a run in the bottom of the first. Sophomore
Jake Saltzman grounded out to short to score senior
Jack McCarty to cut the Knights' lead to 3-1.
Molly used a five-run third inning to take a 6-3 lead. McCarty grounded into a fielder's choice, which brought home
Ryan Hensley. McCarty scored on a wild pitch to knot the score at three. Marino put the home team ahead, 5-3, with a two-RBI double down the right field line. Hogan capped the rally with an RBI single through the left side.
The maroon and white increased its lead in the fifth after an error plated senior
Angelo Navetta.
The away team scored in the seventh to make it a 7-4 contest.
In the bottom half of the frame, junior
Michael Wall hit a sacrifice fly to right field to extend the lead to 8-4.
Senior
Anthony Catinella threw 6.1 innings, gave up four runs on seven hits, and struck out three to improve to 2-4 on the season.
Molloy continues its series with Queens tomorrow, Mar. 30. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled to start at noon.
