Greene Walk-Off Gives Cassidy-Lyke 400th Win

Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Mar. 29, 2018) - The softball team opened East Coast Conference play, splitting a doubleheader against the Knights of Queens College. A walk-off home run from freshman Courtney Greene clinched the first game in favor of the Lions before Molloy fell, 3-0, in the second contest. Head Coach Susan Cassidy-Lyke earned her 400th career victory in the win.

Game One: Molloy 3, Queens 2
After three perfect innings from junior pitcher Jenna Turato, the Knights took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a home run from ToniMarie Valeriano. The visitors then doubled the lead in the top of the seventh on a single to center field from Briana Schippell.

Singles from junior Kaitlyn Snyder and senior Olivia Banulski set the stage for Greene, who drove the ball over the right field fence to give the Lions a 3-2 victory.

Snyder went 3-for-3 for Molloy. Turato allowed two runs on three hits while striking out six batters in a complete effort to improve to 7-5.

Game Two: Molloy 0, Queens 3
The teams found themselves scoreless through four innings of play in the second half of the doubleheader. In the top of the fifth, Alyssa Neal tripled to center field to put the Knights on the board. The lead doubled later in the inning following a single from Lauren Pascual. In the top of the seventh, Queens extended its lead to 3-0 on a single from Danielle D'Angelo.

Molloy had runners on third in both the first and fifth innings, but were unable to plate a run.

Banulski and senior Sarah Rambo each recorded two hits in the effort for the Lions.

Freshman Tonianne Larson fanned five batters in 6.1 innings of work for Molloy in the loss, falling to 4-3 on the season.

The Lions head on the road on Saturday (Mar. 31) to face New York Institute of Technology at 12:00 p.m.
