Pfeifer Nets Six to Lead Women's Lacrosse Over STAC, 13-8

Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Mar. 24, 2018) – Eight points from junior Ali Pfeifer lifted the women's lacrosse team to a 13-8 victory over Saint Thomas Aquinas College. The Lions sit at 6-4 (2-1 East Coast Conference) with the win while STAC fell to 3-5 (0-3 ECC) with the loss.

Molloy netted the contest's first five goals off the sticks of Pfeifer, juniors Brianna Wilson and Michaela Siegler, and sophomore Nora Miller. The Spartans scored twice, but a marker from senior Jessica Markowitz helped the Lions take a 6-2 victory into the break.

Pfeifer started off the scoring in the second frame before STAC netted three straight goals to come within two, 7-5. The junior scored the next three goals for Molloy to put the Lions ahead, 10-6, with just under six minutes to play.

Kaitlyn Gutenberger scored her third of the day for the Spartans before goals from freshman Jillian Mayr and sophomore Kelsey Hammel gave Molloy a 12-7 lead with under three minutes remaining. STAC would score once more, but junior Casie Caiazza rounded out the scoring with a goal in the final 90 seconds to set the score at 13-8.

Pfeifer's eight points came on the strength of a six goal performance. Caiazza (one goal, two assists) and Hammel (one goal, one assist) tallied three and two points, respectively. Freshmen Kaitlyn Meyer and Gabriela Cesaro each recorded a point in the effort. Meyer led the maroon and white with six ground balls while also causing three turnovers. Junior Emily Bauer led with five forced turnovers for Molloy. Wilson and Mayr each controlled three draws. Freshman Alexandra Long made 10 saves for her fifth victory of the season.
