Women's Lacrosse Begins ECC Play with Win Over UDC

Washington, D.C. (Mar. 17, 2018) – The Molloy women's lacrosse team defeated the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds, 23-3, Saturday afternoon at UDC Field. The Lions improved to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in ECC play with the win. Junior Casie Caiazza (three goals and five assists) tallied a game-high eight points, and junior Ali Pfeifer (two goals and four assists) recorded six points in the win.

Molloy, who fired 30 shots in the first half, scored the first four goals, led by two from Brianna Wilson (three goals) and one apiece from sophomore Kelsey Hammel and Caiazza. UDC (1-4, 0-1 ECC) scored to cut the lead to 4-1. The Lions went on a 7-0 run, led by three goals from senior Jessica Markowitz (three goals), and a goal each from Caiazza, Pfeifer, sophomore Nora Miller, and junior Michaela Siegler (three goals) to extend the lead to 11-1. With the score 11-2, the Lions netted the final five goals of the half, led by two goals from Siegler and one goal from redshirt junior Zoe Norton, Wilson, and Caiazza, and bought a 16-2 lead into the break.

The maroon and white, which had 13 different goal scorers, opened the half with a goal from junior Molly Brown (two goals) to make it 17-2. After a Firebirds' goal, Pfeifer, sophomore Amanda Reyes, Brown, and freshmen Jillian Mayr, Sarah Weitman, and Alexa Adduci found the back of the net to bring the advantage to 23-3. 

Markowitz controlled seven draws and picked up three ground balls, and freshman Alexandra Long made one save to move to 3-0 on the season.

The Lions return home to play Caldwell tomorrow, Mar. 18. Faceoff with the Cougars is scheduled for noon.
