Uniondale, N.Y. (Mar. 17, 2018) – The Molloy baseball team dropped a doubleheader to the Le Moyne Dolphins Saturday afternoon at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. The Lions lost the first game 16-3 and the second game 8-4. The maroon and white moved to 6-11.
Game One: Molloy 3, Le Moyne 16
The Dolphins (13-5) scored four runs in the first inning to take an early 4-0 lead.
Le Moyne added three runs in the third and fourth innings to extend its lead to 12-0.
The road team plated six runs in the sixth to bring its lead to 16-0.
In the eighth, junior
Ryan Hensley brought in a run on a fielder's choice, and sophomore
Sean Hogan walked with the bases loaded to make it a 16-2 contest.
Senior
Jack McCarty, who led the Lions with three hits, tallied an RBI single in the ninth inning.
Game Two: Molloy 4, Le Moyne 8
The Dolphins scored two runs in the top of the first inning to jump ahead 2-0.
The Lions answered in the bottom of the frame. Sophomore
Jake Saltzman drilled a solo home run to left field to cut the lead to 2-1. After freshman
Matt Overton walked, senior
Elijah Leerdam blasted a two-run home run to left field to put the home team ahead 3-2.
Le Moyne plated a run in the second to tie the game and scored three runs in the fourth to go up 6-3.
In the bottom of the fourth, Overton scored on a walk pitch to cut the away team's lead to 6-4.
The Dolphins added two runs in the fifth to make it 8-4.
Leerdam, Overton, and Hogan led the Lions with two hits in the second game.
Molloy and Le Moyne conclude their series tomorrow, Mar. 18 at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. The game is scheduled to start at noon.
